How to mince Garlic

I love garlic and use it in so many of my recipes. Here’s my guide demonstrating how to mince garlic cloves nice and fast, using a knife.

It really helps to have a large knife that’s nice and sharp. This will help to peel and cut a fresh garlic clove. Remember to curl your fingers so you don’t hurt yourself.

  1. How to mince garlicSlice the tip and root end off each garlic clove.
  2. Bash each piece of garlic with the large side of your knife then peel (bashing makes them easier to peel).
  3. For each piece of garlic, hold the clove on a chopping board with your fingers curled. With your other hand, finely slice the garlic lengthways using a rocking motion with a sharp knife.
  4. Move the knife and your fingers up the garlic clove whilst slicing. Do this for all the cloves.
  5. To mince the garlic, place all your cut garlic in the middle of the chopping board.
  6. Place one hand on the handle of a large knife and the palm of your other hand on the top edge of the other end of the knife.
  7. Finally, use a rocking motion going back and forth over the garlic to mince it into smaller pieces.
