How to cook Ham in the oven

Ham tastes so much better when you cook it at home from a gammon joint. Check out my 60 second video on how to cook a ham in the oven which can then be carved into slices or steak.

  1. Firstly, if you want to get rid of some of the saltiness of the ham, make sure you leave it in some water for a couple of hours before cooking.
  2. Next, wrap the ham up in some foil in a roasting tin and then stick it in the oven on 180 degrees. You then need to cook it for 35 minutes per 500 grams plus 30 minutes on top of that. So for a 700 gram piece of ham, it’s going to take 1 hour and 20 minutes.
  3. About 25 minutes before your ham has finished cooking, make sure you take it out of the oven, remove the foil then stick it back in for the remaining cooking time. This will help the ham to turn golden without burning.
  4. Finally, once the ham has been in there for all the cooking time, take it out, leave it to cool, then it’s ready to carve.

Check out the video below demonstrating how it’s done. Need to save some time? Check out how to cook a ham in the pressure cooker.
