Sourdough Starter Recipe

Sourdough bread is very popular at the moment. If you want to know how to make it, you'll also need to follow a sourdough starter recipe.

Follow this guide showing you how to make sourdough starter from scratch. It'll take a few days to make, however it is a really easy process to follow.

  1. Sourdough StarterTake a clear jar and pour in 100g of strong white bread flour and 100ml of lukewarm water.
  2. Thoroughly mix together until nice and smooth.
  3. Leave loosely covered in a place with a consistent/warm temperature for the next 24 hours.
  4. After a day, the starter should be giving off a yeasty smell with some bubbles forming. Discard half the starter from the jar and add another 100g of flour and 100ml of lukewarm water.
  5. Sourdough StarterMix until smooth and leave for another 24 hours, loosely covered in a warm place.
  6. Follow the process of replacing and topping up the starter for a further 1-3 days until you're left with a puffed up mixture with lots of bubbles.
  7. Place 1 tsp of starter in a glass of water. If it floats, it's ready to use.
